Having a startup comes with the turmoil of opportunities and setbacks while putting all your effort in thriving forward, and reaching for the stars. But it is easily forgotten that it’s in the early stage of starting-up, that you’re setting the culture can be set for years later.
Rotterdam is bursting with energy and new innovation initiatives. These include the first port accelerator program called Port XL, the Cambridge Innovation Center which opened in September to help scale ups, the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, and Blue City. Rotterdam has plenty to offer startups, both in the city and in its port.
At CIC, we value the impact that a good conversation between two talented people can have. So much so, that six years ago we founded a non-profit organization (the Venture Cafe Foundation) to devote an entire afternoon every Thursday to the power of networking. People gather, share ideas and learn under the umbrella of Venture Cafe’s weekly gatherings.

I was recently on an email thread with the CIC General Managers (Kim Plank of CIC St. Louis, Natalia Martinez of CIC Miami, and Sarah Morin of CIC in Cambridge and Boston) and the question was raised: What are your tips and tricks for getting as close as possible to “inbox zero”?
On Saturday, January 21st, over 1.700 people attended the official opening party of CIC Miami. With visitors from as far as Santiago and Tokyo, guests enjoyed a fair of innovation with great food, drink, and entertainment. Check out photos here!
2016 was quite the year. From Brexit to Trump, and a disturbing amount of celebrities gone too soon, it’s been a weird trip around the sun. The CIC team is excited to see the start of 2017, but also had a big year ourselves.
