Our daily lives are filled with things to remember, places to be, bills to pay, phones ringing, emails going off, Facebook and a myriad of other common distractions. It is no surprise that most people feel distracted and stressed out on a regular basis. The practice of mindful presence can help us to maintain focus and a relaxed state of mind even within a busy environment. In this class we will we be learning to link our breath, minds and bodies through the practice of the 8 Brocades Qigong: a gentle and flowing 8 part movement meditation. By linking the timing of our breath with smooth movements, we are able to improve circulation, ease joint pain and create a deep inner sense of tranquility. Qigong has been used in holistic Chinese medicine for hundreds of years, it's practice is widely praised for improving vitality and focus.
Matthew “Malu” Wilder has been teaching self defense, mindfulness practice and meditation for the past eight years. He is the founder of the martial arts system “Nagasu Nami” which focuses on bringing the mind and body to one fundamental awareness. Malu is a practicing Buddhist with roots in American/Tibetan Buddhism. He is the lead instructor and founder of the Mindfulness Initiative, a mindfulness and meditation training firm which works to bring meditation to public schools and corporations around the Boston area. Malu believes that through the practices of sitting and moving meditation the mind can trained to a high state of focus, kindness and tranquility.
