ECS, Jobs, Burst and the future of scripting in Unity
During GDC, Unity released a beta build of their new Entity Component System, Jobs System, and Burst compiler that are slated to roll out this year. This represents a radical change to scripting in Unity. In this presentation, we’ll go over the fundamentals of data-oriented design, dive into the new scripting systems, and talk about how to write fast code in both the old and new versions of Unity.
Presenter Graham Pentheny is a developer with 10 years of experience writing game code everywhere from huge AAA C++ projects to small games in LUA, and everything in-between. Most of that experience has been making mobile games, where performance matters quite a bit. Currently he’s the engineering lead on the Alphabear 2 team at Spry Fox and one of the organizers of BUG.
