A Master Class in AI : Ten innovations in Natural Language Processing

Natural language processing (NLP) is an area of artificial intelligence that helps computers understand and interpret human language. Innovations in Artificial intelligence, deep learning and compuational hardware is helping make major strides in NLP research. While the applications are many, it is important to understand the kinds of problems NLP techniques can help solve.

In this master class, we will introduce ten key NLP techniques that are predominantly used in the industry.

- Question Answering
- Neural Machine Translation
- Topic Summarization
- Natural Language Inference
- Semantic Role Labeling
- Text Classification
- Sentiment Analysis
- Relation extraction
- Goal-Oriented Dialogue
- Semantic Parsing

We will also illustrate a case study on NLP in Python using the QuSandbox.

The Future of Cannabis: Panel Discussion & Networking Event

If you weren't convinced that we are in the early stages of a cannabis boom unlike any other in history, then consider these stats:

  • In 2017, sales of medical and recreational cannabis in the U.S. were nearly nine times higher than Oreo cookies.

  • The Cannabis industry is on track to add as many as 340,000 full-time jobs by 2022.

  • In 2018, the marijuana industry created an estimated $28B-$34B in economic impact.

  • Total demand for marijuana in the U.S., including the black market, is around $52.5 billion.

At Branchfood we've seen plenty of new products making their way into the home. Cannabis is quickly advancing in both medicinal and leisure markets and some experts predict cannabis will develop into a craft industry similar to microbreweries and craft distilleries. Many options for infused food, drink, and personal care products made with cannabis derivatives like CBD and hemp are just the beginning. With so much innovation underway, 2019 will surely be the biggest year yet for industry development and maturation.

In continuation of our ongoing Future of Food panel series, we'll bring together leading industry experts for a discussion and networking event on the future of cannabis to understand the past, present, and future of the industry. Join us for this event and brush up on the latest on this fast-moving sector.

Innovation in Caregiving Conference

Innovation in Caregiving Conference

  • Lighthouse, 20th floor, CIC Boston (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Background

Given the growth of the 66M caregivers in America, and the strong desire of families to age at home, caregivers are overwhelmingly burned out and under supported. 71% of caregivers are interested in using technology to support aging but only 7% of caregivers use technology. This presents a core problem in working with caregivers. Health care is difficult. We work in an industry where the payer (insurer), customer (clinician), distributor (pharmacy), and end user (patient or caregiver) are separate. Unsurprisingly, health care can feel siloed.

Changing health care is also difficult. Solutions may never find willing customers. Clinicians may have no incentive to try a new system on top of their already full workloads. Yet, with these challenges, there are moments when silos are broken down and scalable solutions are discovered: solutions that are beneficial for payers, beneficial for the health system, and most importantly beneficial for the patient.

Our Vision

Our vision for the inaugural Innovation in Caregiving Conference is to bring together an interdisciplinary group of health care professionals, such that silos are broken down, in order to uncover solutions centered around family and professional caregivers that have strong incentives for multiple health care stakeholders.

Target Audience

The target audience of the conference are payer, managed care, and health system executives looking for innovative solutions that work with caregivers to lower health care costs and the opportunity to learn about best practices in supporting caregivers. The target audience is also entrepreneurs, technologists, and investors interested in building or growing solutions in the caregiver space. Lastly, the target audience covers practitioners implementing solutions to support caregivers.

AutoML 101: Introduction & Case Study

AutoML 101: Introduction & Case Study

As per Wikipedia:
"Automated machine learning (AutoML) is the process of automating the end-to-end process of applying machine learning to real-world problems. In a typical machine learning application, practitioners must apply the appropriate data pre-processing, feature engineering, feature extraction, and feature selection methods that make the dataset amenable for machine learning. Following those preprocessing steps, practitioners must then perform algorithm selection and hyperparameter optimization to maximize the predictive performance of their final machine learning model. As many of these steps are often beyond the abilities of non-experts, AutoML was proposed as an artificial intelligence-based solution to the ever-growing challenge of applying machine learning. Automating the end-to-end process of applying machine learning offers the advantages of producing simpler solutions, faster creation of those solutions, and models that often outperform models that were designed by hand."

In this talk we will discuss how QuSandbox and the Model Analytics Studio can be used in the selection of machine learning models.

Perfectly Fair Equity Splits for Bootstrapped Startups

  • Havana, 5th floor, CIC Cambridge (map)

Creating an unfair equity split with partners is not only one of the most devastating mistakes founders can make, but also one of the most common. Conventional "fixed" equity models are the core problem, yet they are still widely used. Dynamic equity models are becoming more popular because they allow founders too create a perfectly fair equity split while providing protection for all participants. This seminar will teach attendees a simple method for implementing a dynamic split and virtually eliminating equity disputes. Every company founder that plans to share equity needs to learn how to ensure fairness.

Key Lessons:

  • Why conventional fixed-split equity models set founders up for failure

  • How to implement a dynamic equity model that is perfectly fair to all participants

  • What to do when partners or employees quit or get fired
