September 2, 2019 Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) is pleased to announce Joyce Kornet-Vreugdenhil will be taking the role as General Manager of CIC’s first international location in Rotterdam. Prior to joining CIC, Joyce served as Program Manager at EY. In that role she managed the team responsible for EY's Entrepreneur Of The Year program in The Netherlands and was instrumental in the launch of EY's first startup and scaleup service. Before her time at EY, Joyce held international sales and business development positions. In addition, she currently serves as a board member of The Entrepreneurs Foundation that supports entrepreneurs in emerging markets with microcredit.

“I am thrilled to have found the next strong leader for CIC Rotterdam in Joyce,” said Melissa Ablett, who acted as General Manager for the center for three years. “Joyce is a natural community builder with a knowledge of both the startup and corporate world.”

Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, CIC officially opened its first international location in September 2016. CIC Rotterdam now comprises 10.000m2 inside the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam’s Central District and is home to over 235 startups, scaleups, corporates, investors, and nonprofit organizations. CIC Rotterdam aims to play an integral role in elevating and expanding the Rotterdam and Dutch innovation community, drawing in high-tech innovators, specialized startups, and international companies from every field.

Kornet’s step into the CIC Rotterdam General Manager role will enable Melissa Ablett to move into her next role for CIC, facilitating ongoing expansion outside of the United States. As the new global Strategic Director of Sales & Operations for CIC, Ablett will support CIC’s new centers opening in Summer 2020 as well as additional sites that will launch throughout the EU in future years. Melissa has worked for CIC since 2014, supporting the company’s expansion to Miami, Philadelphia, and Rotterdam prior to moving to The Netherlands to take the role of launching and running the center as General Manager.

“CIC is continuing to grow rapidly, and it’s an asset to have Melissa supporting that growth,” said Marcus Fernhout, Executive Director of CIC. “Her real world knowledge of growing a successful innovation community and connecting it to the rest of the CIC family will undoubtedly help us grow a truly global innovation ecosystem.”
