How long have you been working for CIC and what is your role?
I’ve been at CIC for one year as a Concierge Associate at CIC Boston.
CIC Boston has been growing quite a bit since you started. What’s the biggest difference between now and your first day?
Our team has more than doubled in size and we’ve opened a new floor (one of three more to come!)
What were you doing before CIC?
Sweating in the Florida heat working for the Walt Disney Company. I worked on one of the teams that dealt with guests who had experienced challenges during their visit. We were responsible for turning their day around in whatever capacity we could.
How is that job like your current role?
People come to me to be a source of information for a number of things, either related to their time at CIC or just questions about good places to eat. If you ever have a question, we hold the clue that will help you solve the puzzle.
Why did you apply for the Concierge Associate role specifically?
I felt that this was the best opportunity to hone the skills I had learned at Disney. Because CIC is smaller than Disney, it lets certain projects be your own. You get full control of them which is a valuable skill in professional development.
Florida is long way from CIC. What brought you from there to here
I may have been confused, but I think the weather is better here.
How did you find out about CIC?
Through a good friend of mine, Community Leader Alex Cheung, who on a whim brought me to see fireworks at 101 Main Street in Cambridge. That sparked the curiosity that brought me here.
What was the most striking aspect of the CIC interview process?
It’s very immersive! You get to work side-by-side with your potential future peers. We’re very good at finding the type of person who would work well with the team.
What are some of those projects?
We’ve been working on creating an additional concierge experience on the ground floor of 50 Milk Street, as well as the 16th floor. As we expand, we want to allow our members to get work done in the ‘third space.’
What’s your favorite thing to order at Render Coffee?
Standard cold brew. Large. Even in the dead of winter.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
At CIC, we’re at the center of this really interesting network of people who make up the innovation community. I think that being at Concierge, you’re even more central to the nexus. You are the crossroads of the people who make up this community within the CIC space.
What’s the strangest request you’ve ever had to answer at Concierge?
Someone once asked me not only where to get a good sandwich, but also to rank the sandwich options nearby numerically in order of my preference.
What do you like to do after work?
Traveling (Montreal, most recently), hiking, eating great food. There are so many choices nearby. If I want pizza, I go to Santarpio’s. If I want a great drink, I go to Yvonne’s.
What’s your favorite app on your phone?
Buttery. It’s an alcohol delivery service based out of 50 Milk. Drinks are delivered from mom-and-pop liquor stores and everything is delivered cold. I enjoy supporting local Boston businesses and apps.
If you were to name your child after a street in Boston, what would their name be?
Commonwealth.
